Different Jobs in Our Community



There are many different jobs in our community. Some people do hard physical work outdoors. A labourer works on construction sites and does physical tasks. They don't need special education but work very hard.

When you go shopping, a shop assistant helps you find what you need. They know about the products in the store and help customers.

If your lights don't work or you have problems with electricity, you call an electrician. They know how to fix electrical equipment safely.

A journalist writes news stories for newspapers or websites. They interview people and collect information about important events.

A joiner works with wood. This person is like a carpenter who makes doors, tables, and other wooden items. They use special tools to create beautiful wooden things.

Policemen and policewomen keep our streets safe. They wear uniforms, stop criminals, and help people in trouble. They can give fines to people who break rules.

A writer creates books and stories. Famous writers like Mark Twain wrote many books that people still read today.

A pilot flies airplanes. They need special training to operate aircraft and are responsible for passenger safety during flights.

A soldier serves in the army. They protect their country, use weapons, and wear military uniforms.

A seaman works on ships and boats. Like the cartoon character Popeye, they navigate vessels on the water.

When you eat at a restaurant, a waiter takes your order and brings your food and drinks to your table.

An office worker works at a desk, usually with a computer, in an office building.

Someone who is unemployed doesn't have a job but wants to work and is looking for employment.

A cook prepares food in restaurants or cafeterias. They boil, bake, fry, and roast food to make delicious meals.

A manager is like a boss who runs a business or part of a company. They make important decisions and work with money.

When you check into a hotel, a receptionist welcomes you. They give you information and handle your room key.

If you have problems with water pipes or toilets, you need a plumber. They install and fix pipes and other water systems.

A photographer takes pictures with a camera. They might take photos at special events like weddings or for magazines.

An engineer designs and builds machines, roads, or bridges. They solve problems and create new things using science and math.
